| Remember when you used to have to argue with your mates about what dimensions to use and then draw a rectangular grid before you could play battleships? Not anymore. Now it comes with flashy graphics and sound effects but is still the same old classic game underneath. |
| I hadn't played this for 20 years but as soon as the grid appeared memories came flooding back. Every Christmas, an electronic version of Battleships made by MB games or somebody, would be constantly advertised on TV. I REALLY REALLY wanted one but Santa never obliged. And there was the time in the school holidays that Ian Mylam and I attempted the world's largest Battleships game. (We had dreams of getting into the Guinness Book of World Records). One day spent drawing out squares and then an hour and a half with both of us constantly missing. We never did finish it and in fact I think that was the last time I played. |
